Lent 2012
Lent is Around the Corner
The season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 22nd. Ashes will be distributed at the 9:00 AM and the 12:00 Noon Masses and at the 4:30PM and 7:00 PM Services. A reminder too that our parishs Annual Retreat will take place on February 27th to 29th at 7:30 PM. Father Richard Long will be our retreat master. Add these dates to your calendar.
Stations of the Cross With
Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament
Join us for the Stations of the Cross on each of the following Fridays: March 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th at 9:30 AM (following the 9:00 AM Mass). You can also share in the Stations on Friday evenings at the Eucharistic Adoration Hour (7:30-9:30 PM) in the Convent Chapel.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation
Celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation provides us with an encounter with our Compassionate God. Lent is an especially opportune time to experience Gods mercy in this sacramental way. The parish offers weekly celebrations of the sacrament on Saturday (except on Holy Saturday, April 7th) from 4:15 PM to 4:45 PM.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation will also be celebrated at the following times:
+ Monday of Holy Week, April 2nd hours to be announced.
+ Good Friday, April 6th, following the 3:00PM service at about 4:15PM.
+ Holy Saturday, April 7th, from 10:30AM to 12:00 Noon.
Rules of Fast and Abstinence
During the season of Lent the Church calls us to fast and abstain. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are fast days. Fast means that those between the ages of 18 and 59 limit themselves to one full meal and eat nothing between meals. The other meals on a fast day are light meals. All the Fridays of Lent, as well as Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, are also days of abstinence, which means that those 14 years of age and older are to abstain from eating meat.
